2026 Skur Specs: Our Complete Guide | THE SHED KNIVES BLOG #108

2026 Skur Specs: Our Complete Guide | THE SHED KNIVES BLOG #108

The Skur exists because people we believe people should actually use their knives.

Not for photos, hype, or simple display pieces. The Skur became one of the best-selling knives we’ve ever made because it solved a real problem: people wanted a compact fixed blade that felt serious, carried easily, and didn’t give up strength or quality to get there.

The 2026 Skur is the most refined version of that idea. This blog exists to explain exactly why and to give you real numbers, real decisions, and real reasons this knife performs the way it does.

Why the Skur Became a Core Knife at Shed Knives

“Skur” is Norwegian for shed, pronounced “skyour.” It’s a simple name for a knife built with the same mindset as our shop: practical, durable, and honest.

Over multiple years, the Skur has held the #1 and #2 best-seller spots for Shed Knives. That didn’t happen because it chased trends. It happened because campers, bushcrafters, hikers, and EDC users kept choosing it after real use.

At just over seven inches overall, the Skur stays compact on the belt. But the moment you pick it up, it does not feel small. It feels planted. It feels confident. It feels like a tool, not an accessory.

Steel, Heat Treat, and Why We Do It In-House

The 2026 Skur is made from 154CM stainless steel, made in NY, United States. This steel has earned its reputation over decades of hard use in fixed blades and industrial cutting tools.

We heat treat every blade fully in-house. No outsourcing. No guessing. The target hardness range is 58–60 HRC, with most blades living right at 58.

That number matters. At this hardness, the blade balances edge retention with toughness. It stays sharp, but it doesn’t become brittle. It handles lateral stress better. It recovers from mistakes. That’s exactly what you want in a field knife.

We do not use cryogenic treatment on the 2026 Skur. Instead, the blades are tempered at 400°F. This decision was made after real testing and cost/benefit analysis. The result is a blade that performs consistently in real-world use rather than chasing good-sounding lab numbers.

Grind Geometry and Real-World Cutting Feel

Grind: flat saber grind with a stonewashed finish.

The blade enters material cleanly and maintains strength behind the edge. The grind supports controlled slicing, not fragile razor geometry - this is a knife you can lean into.

The spine thickness sits between 0.220 and 0.227 inches. That thickness gives the Skur its solid feel and strength without turning it into a pry bar disguised as a knife.

Handle Construction That Actually Matters

The handle on the 2026 Skur is 3D contoured CNC-milled G-10, not flat slabs. Every contour exists for control and comfort.

The total thickness of the knife at the handle (including the blade blank and both scales) is 0.8435 inches. The blade blank itself measures approximately 0.221 inches thick. Each scale starts thicker and is milled down to achieve proper ergonomics.

Ivory White G-10 liners measure 0.062 inches and provide both contrast and structure. Handle scales are secured with six black oxide Allen-head screws, removable with a standard 3/32-inch wrench.

This design gives the knife a locked-in feel without hotspots and keeps it comfortable during long sessions of use.

A Few Key Design Features Worth Calling Out

These elements don’t get much a spotlight online, but are a notable mention:

  • 1/8-inch jimping on the spine improves thumb control without tearing skin

  • Sharpening choil allows full edge maintenance to the heel

  • Triangular lanyard hole secures cordage while reducing abrasion

Each feature exists because it solves a specific problem in the field.

Kydex Sheath Built for Real Use

Every 2026 Skur ships with a CNC-milled black Kydex sheath made from genuine SEKISUI Kydex. This material is manufactured in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania and used globally in professional applications, including aerospace and duty holsters.

The sheath uses detent retention. The knife clicks in and stays there. No straps. No soft materials. No collapse.

The sheath is ambidextrous and includes a Discreet Carry Concepts Mod 4 HLR clip, adjustable for 1.75-inch belts. Chicago screws with nylon spacers secure the assembly.

Kydex does not absorb moisture, does not soften with moderate heat, and does not wear through like leather or nylon. It performs consistently across environments.

Size, Weight, and Carry Balance

The 2026 Skur is intentionally balanced for daily carry.

The knife alone weighs 8.5 ounces. With the sheath, total carry weight is approximately 10.1 ounces. The sheath and clip account for about 1.6 ounces of that total.

This weight gives the knife presence without becoming cumbersome. It feels solid in the hand and stable during use.

Pricing, Availability, and Ownership

MSRP for the 2026 Skur: $225 USD + U.S. shipping included.

In-stock knives ship within 24 hours, seven days a week.

Production runs continuously throughout the year, but each year’s version is discontinued at year’s end. Once the 2026 Skur is gone, it will not be made again.

Final Thoughts

The 2026 Skur exists because people demanded a knife that delivers performance without compromise.

It feels right in the hand.
It works when conditions aren’t ideal.
It offers American-made quality at a price that makes sense.

If someone could only own one fixed blade from Shed Knives, the 2026 Skur would be the choice because it balances feel, function, and value better than anything else in this market.

This knife isn’t trying to be loud. It’s trying to be right and that’s exactly why the 2026 Skur stands out.
