Knife Care & Maintenance

G-10 Handle Knives:
Use dish soap, warm water, and a soft or hard bristle brush to scrub your G-10 scales. Remove your scales after cleaning them. Rinse off all soap with warm water along with any soap on your knife. Let your G-10 scales air dry until there's no moisture left. Wipe off all moisture on your knife with a clean towel - do not let your knife blank air dry. Once your knife blank is dry, apply a thin coating of oil (like Ballistol, honing oil, motor oil, or anything similar). Please note that overtime, G-10 scales made for Shed Knives models will both smoothen out and slightly darken over time through normal use.

Wood Handle Knives:

Use knife honing oil, new motor oil, or any type of knife/rust proofing oil to keep your knife from rusting and to keep the wood on the knife hydrated and to preserve the quality of the knife.

Rope Handle Knives:

Use knife honing oil, new motor oil, or any type of knife/rust proofing oil to keep your knife from rusting. Make sure you do not coat the rope handle with oil since certain oils will loosen the tight rope handle wrap.

How to oil your knife:

1. Simply take a clean cloth and saturate a small part of it with oil.

2. Coat the blade and wood (do not oil your rope handle) with the oil.

3. Wipe off any excess oil on the knife/wood handle with the unused part of the cloth.

Storing your knife:

Store your knife in a leather sheath, box (the one that came with your knife), or wood box to keep your knife out of the elements. Make sure your knife is in a dry, temperature controlled, room/area to prevent any rusting or corrosion. If you have a wood handle knife, soak a clean cloth in the Shed Knives suggested oil (mentioned in the Wood Handle Knives category), wrap the handle/blade with the oil-saturated cloth, let sit for 5-10 minutes, and your knife is ready for storage. You should soak your wood handle knife in oil (our suggested soaking method) every 1-3 months.

Please note, in-order to have your knife meet full Shed Knives warranty standards, you must take care of your knife using these suggested steps, listed above, or your knife voids our repair, maintenance, and/or replacement warranty standards.
